FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: My son/daughter has never played organized basketball, should I sign him/her up for NJB Divisional or All-Net?  
A: First year players should sign up for our NJB Divisional league.  In rare circumstances a first year player will make an All-Net team after trying out.

Q: What is the Divisional league?
A: The Divisional program offers three divisions; 3/4 grade, 5/6 grade, and 7/8 grade for boys and girls.  Our divisional coaches acquaint players with the fundamentals of the game, teach proper shooting, passing, dribbling and defense. We also teach good sportsmanship and teamwork concepts during the season.

Q: How often do Divisional league teams practice?
A: Divisonal teams may not practice more than two times per week and practices may not last longer than two hours per session.

Q: What is All-Net?
A: The All-Net Program is designed for advanced players in 5th to 8th grade.  El Toro's All-Net program has boys teams that compete in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  We also have girls teams that compete in the 7th and 8th grades.  Many All-Net players go on to be excellent high school players. Coaches emphasize the fundamentals of the game and teach advanced skills to prepare the student-athlete for high school basketball.

Q: How often do All-Net teams practice?
A: All-Net teams may practice a maximum of 3 times per week and practices should not last longer than two hours per session.

Q: When is the Divisional league?
A: El Toro NJB's Divisional league runs from November to February followed by the year end tournament in March.  Currently, we do not offer any other Divisional leagues throughout the year.

Q: When is the All-Net league?
A: El Toro's All-Net teams play in 3 of the 4 All-Net leagues.  All teams participate in the Fall league (Sept - Oct), the Winter league (Nov - Mar) and the Spring league (Apr - May).  Optionally, an All-Net team may participate in the Summer league.

Q: Do All-Net teams play in non All-Net tournaments?
A: Yes, some of our All-Net teams participate in AAU, ARC, and YBOA tournaments.

Q: How can my son/daughter play for an All-Net team?
A: All players interested in playing for an All-Net team may attend an open tryout.  Open tryouts take place in July/August.  Additional tryouts may occur prior to any of the seasonal leagues if roster spots are available on a team.

Q: Do coaches receive any training?
A: Yes, all of our coaches must attend an annual coaches clinic.

Q: Does El Toro NJB take any precautionary measures for my childs safety?
A: Yes, all of coaches and board members are fingerprinted by US Fingerprinting.

Q- What size basketball should my son/daughter use?
A- Division 3 boys and girls use a 27.5" ball, Division 2 boys and girls uses a 28.5" ball, Division 1 girls use a 28.5" ball, and the Division 1 boys use a 29.5" ball.  In the All-Net Division the 5th grade boys and 5th - 8th grade girls use a 28.5" ball and the 6th - 8th grade boys use a 29.5" ball.

Q- What is El Toro NJB's refund policy?
A- El Toro NJB is fully funded by registration fees and donations.  Because of this full refunds are only granted prior to evaluations.  After evaluations are completed and players are assigned to a team 50% refund is granted.  Once league play starts refunds cannot be approved.
